It’s summer time! That means trips to the beach, ice cream, and a lot of time outdoors. People are starting to come out after months of rain or snow.
These all sound exciting until it becomes too hot to go outside. To avoid cancelling plans because of the heat, here are 6 tips and tricks to follow.
Keep yourself hydrated.
The first rule in surviving the summer is keeping yourself hydrated. Don’t underestimate the value of water because it will definitely save you from fainting.
As much as possible, try to consume at least two liters a day. This may sound too much but if you have a water jug with you, you wouldn’t notice that you’re drinking all throughout the day.
Don’t turn your AC to full blast.
While there’s nothing wrong with turning your air conditioning unit to full blast, you don’t want to do this if you’re going out soon. Jumping from a cool room to the outdoor heat might not be good for your health.
Your body will have to adjust quickly in order to accommodate the change in temperature. For some people, this becomes an invitation to a cold or a headache.
Wear appropriate clothing.
Another way to keep your cool is by wearing appropriate clothes. If it’s more than 35 degrees outside, dressing down is the smartest thing to do.
A tank top and a pair of shorts will feel better when you go outdoors. Cotton clothes will also feel cooler on your skin. Match it with shades and sandals and you’re good to go. Just don’t forget to wear sunscreen!
Reduce the mess around you.
Did you know that having a lot of things in your house contributes to the extra heat you feel? This is because things occupy space and when they occupy space, they can prevent proper ventilation.
As much as possible, you want to keep your house properly ventilated for the air to come in. So before the summer arrives, start decluttering and removing things you don’t need.
A lot of people love to go out during the summer and these include the fitness enthusiasts. But sometimes, the sun is too strong for you to jog around. If you truly want to take advantage of the summer heat, do your exercises during the early morning or the late afternoon.
That way, the sun isn’t at its brightest. You’ll even have less sunburn!
Eat light foods.
And finally, you might want to start eating light foods. This doesn’t mean that you’ll need to go through a diet. It just means that you should start consuming food with more water content in them.
Green leafy vegetables and fruits are great choices if you want to stay hydrated and healthy at the same time. You can try adding them slowly in your diet or making a homemade citrus drink to refresh you.
Summer can be both a fun and exhausting time. But even if the sun can be overpowering, follow these tips and you’ll still be able to make the most out of it.
